Harness Racing gets a new face
2010-05-27
The Maritime Provinces Harness Racing Commission hired Revolution Media several years ago to design and develop their website. The MPHRC approached Revolution Media again in March and requested some updates; they loved their site, but wanted to freshen up the look and add some more functionality to the judges area.
Revolution Media increased the width of the site to 1000 pixels across and center-justified the design. With the ever-increasing size of monitors, the 750 pixel left-justified older site was getting lost on bigger screens.
A scrolling NHL-style calendar was added across the top of the banner, highlighting the upcoming races in the Maritimes. It displays the next 20 races, and is an excellent at-a-glance planner for racing enthusiasts. The calendar is controlled through the administration area, and also adds a dynamic design element to the home page.
The MPHRC site also includes a password-protected Judges Only area, which allows judges to fill in reports, upload videos, and submit timesheets and expense reports. Revolution Media turned these timesheets and expense reports into electronic forms which generate emails to accounting staff, streamlining the submission process and reducing paper in the office.
The new website maintained all of the existing functionality: updateable news, race calendar, and reporting from the judges area. There are several pages on the site that the content area is directly fed from the national racing site, Standardbred Canada.
